folson i'm not possitive but think it would be the last four digit's in the vin # , like your's would be the 7th month , third day , of 89' but if i'm wrong someone will jumpin and correct me on this ; i ran my own shop since 1985 till closed it in late 1997 where i worked on everything from lawn and garden equiptment , marine engine's , ATV's and all my my on work keeping them running as well as all my freind's family's and their freind's and family !
I hope this help's you out , and welcome to the forums !........

Thankyou! That sounds good but any help on the Model. The person I brought the ATV from said he "thought" it was a LT 230 E. But from the VIN I am guessing it is a S or a J?

Is it an auto clutch or a manual clutch?

If I understand It's a auto clutch. No clutch on Bars Shifts 5 up manually.

Well, if you don't need to pull in the clutch when you shift, then its an LT230E. If you need to use a clutch, its and LT230S. Since the 10th number in the VIN is H, that means its also a 1987, if I'm not mistaken. So you have a 1987 Suzuki Quadrunner LT-230E.

As I am new to this ATV I think this would be a Manual as I have to shift but with no Hand clutch?

It can be called a lot of different things. Sometimes they're called semi-automatics, others call it semi-manual. Its just in between fully manual (User Operated Clutch) and full auto (CVT). And then there's Honda.......we won't even bother trying to explain them! lol
