Default Z400 Head Pipe Bright red

Went out to start up my 04 Z400 and battery was dead. Put it on the charger and when I went back tonight after 24 hrs on trickle charger, it started right up. However, the head pipe started glowing bright red after a few minutes of reving it up. Was trying to get the fan to kick on but never could. What would cause the hed pipe to get so hot so quick?

What do I need to do to richen it up? It has a Procon Rev Box and has been jetted. I have replaced the factory head pipe with a power bomb pipe. This is the first time I have had this problem.

rejet your main main to a larger size....like a couple sizes larger! you need to do a spark plug test when you jet. put a new plug in, warm up engine, then run it threw the gears! when your at the top of 5th gear pull in the clutch and hit the kill switch. once you stop pull the plug and check the color.

white/grey = lean
black= rich

ideally you want a marshmallow brown color on the plug.

if you put an aftermarket air box and pipe on the machine you may have to get the stage 2 jet kit to get jets the proper size. you want plenty of jets to exparament with and find what is the best.

good luck

i have owned two 450s a 06 yfz and currently own an 09 and stock from the dealership and after a minute the whole header would glow cherry red now i have a full exhaust and have my fuel injection mapped perfectly and it still does it. ive never seen something other than a 450 do it though and its not a problem for the 450s
