Default Delayed engagment

got an old lt 4wd 250 1990 i bought this thing for 150.00 the guy said it had no compression and needed bored out. i found a tight intake valve. A valve adjustment later and ive got a great running quad, other than the slip. My problem is it takes a while to engage upon down shifting some times i have to give it a slight rev and it hooks but its not fun when you go downhill. , any ideas

thats the one way bearing on the crank. its made that way so you can freewheel down a hill or engage it to use engine breaking. my wifes 250ex is the same way
