1984 Suzuki LT 185 issue
I just got a 84 Suzuki 185 yesterday that was basically given to me.It is all there and in pretty good shape except the motor blows a little smoke and I am having shifting problems.I pretty much have to slam the gears up.It seems to shift through the gears 1-4 ok but when I am downshifting(downshifting 4-1 is up on this quad, backwards) I have to use a ton of force.Any ideas on what this could be or what I could try to help this issue? Thanks

yea i had a similiar bike it should have a low gear when pulled up from neutral then to shift up its 4 clicks down, i loved it being backwards i could ride standing up easier, as for hard to shift i think thats normal on those i know my was kind of a pain, but an oil change and oil filter replacement might help it out a little.

Hi,I was testing out my shifting issue again when I had more time to look at it.I found out that it does shift ok but it has to be at low rpm to shift it seems. What was happening was the rubber boot where the throttle cable was entering the carb was getting caught up on the top of the carb holding the throttle open just enough to keep the rpm's high enough where the quad didn't want to shift especially when coming out of neutral or going into reverse.I was really relieved to find it wasn't a tranny issue.I have come across a fuel issue though that I am trying to troubleshoot. Thanks for the help
