Default LT230s Air Filter

What is everybody using for air filters? I Would like a K&N but dont know if jetting changes would be necessary.

Mines got a UNI conversion. As long as it stays well oiled they work well. Of course nothing flows like a K&N

skip the k&n.

yeah, it flows a *LITTLE* better than the uni. but it turns to complete crap once it sees the slightest amount of water.

UNI's are the superior off road filter, however for street applications i do prefer the k&n.

Any jetting required for the uni? Are you running stock carb or have you upgraded? Its hard to come by parts for the stock carb (jets) up here in Canada.

You may need to adjust the mixture screw out a little to compensate for the increased air flow, but nothing major should be required.

you can always drill, or solder in and then drill brass jets if you dont want to buy new ones.

however, like bashr52 said, very very minor jetting changes will be needed.

I run K&N in all engines I have, inc lawnmower. They are as good as it gets-providing you SERVICE as per manufacturers recommendation. As for water, ALL filters hate water inc foam. Just don't drown it!!!

a k&n's performance deteriorates much faster than an equivalent UNI's when subjected to water.

its a fact.

and k&n flow #'s are only SLIGHTLY, SLIGHTLY, and did i mention SLIGHTLY better than UNI's

I had a UNI in my 230 and loved it. Cheaper, nicer, easy to clean. I didn't have to rejet mine, but I'm not carb expert so maybe mine wasn't quite perfect!

Also, if you go with UNI, I STRONGLY recommend this:

Uni Foam Filter Service Kit | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC

This kit cleaned a 1986 230S stock filter to practically new! Plus its cheap.

I have heard the K&Ns let in too many particles. They are good for roads, but I would go with an UNI. Plus I put a k&n on and 4 rides later I have a grinding sound in the top end. Is it because of the filter I dont know? but I will find out.
