there probably just locked up from sitting so long, id imagine that like on a car there should be a little opening on the rear of the dust cover that will loosen the tensioner with a screw driver if you dont have the proper equipment and if that doesnt work they are just locked onto the brake shoes and you need to use a clunker to beat it loose.

How exactly do the brakes on a 230 work. I've got an 86 LTF230G. Is it a pair of drum brakes in the front and one set of disc brakes in the back? I can do brakes on a car, should be able to do this right? Looks like the master cylinder is on the handlebar. Mine has a little hole in that sight glass. Any idea how to fix that without spending the $50 for a new one? (Sorry if you feel like I'm hi-jacking your thread. I thought a discussion on brakes was related.)

they should come off with a little "negotiation" lol.

if the drums are really worn, the pads wear a groove into the inside of the drum, and a lip forms on the inner edge, making it hard for the shoes to get around. make sure the shoes are as inward as possible. just remove the cable if theyre cable operated, or try to squish the shoes inwards thru an inspection slot (if it has one) with a screwdriver if theyre hydraulically operated.

i had that same issue with my ranger.

hope this helps and good luck!
