Default Sons new toy

My neighbor gave my son a LT 185 that he hadnt started since 2007.
He thinks its an 1987. Fresh gas and a little priming and started right up.
My son rode it home. Now it seems that the idle will rise on its own in neutral so high you can use reverse. Other than that theres no starting or riding issues

Whats involved in rebuilding these carbs ?
Thanks
Forgot to mention this thing runs like a dream, good power, no smoke at all, runs smooth through all rpms, all plastics intact, odometer is at 1700 miles

sounds like a compression leak. that is what causes that problem most of the time.

Sorry but could you explain to me how a compression leak will cause a high idle rpm ? There doesnt seem to be any starting problem hot or cold and there is no smoke from the exhaust.

I would like to check out the carb but I just dont like going in blind.
I never worked on one of these mikuni carbs before.

Those carbs are extremely simple. Check for a vacuum leak around the base of the carb by spraying some carb cleaner/starting fluid, wd40 or anything flammable while the engine is running. See if there is an increas in RPM at all.
