1996 300cc King-Quad - Neutral Won't Engage
I have a 1996 Kingquad. It was running 2 days ago. I welded on a hand shifter to the shifter. However, when I tried to start it, the Neutral light wouldn't come on. Due to this (obviously) the quad won't start.
I know where the neutral switch is. I shifted the pedal all the way down several times and the neutral indicator still wouldn't come on. I checked all along the wire and couldn't see any breaks or tears. Can anyone let me know what could possibly be the issue? I honestly have no clue what to do. Is it possible to override this switch or is it mandatory? |
it still may be in gear. it is a little dangerous, but you could try pull-starting it to get it running (if it is in gear), then shift into neutral. also, try just physically 'rocking' the wheeler a little forward or back and then try to shift it into neutral. you need to work it a bit sometimes...

Did you disconnect the battery before welding if the shifter was still on the machine. Was thinking the welding could have blown a fuse or caused some problem.

1995 King Quad wont go into Neutral
I have the same issue. The last time I started it, I put it inot 1st gear and rode forward. The front left wheel was locked - it would not turn. The bike stalled, and I have not been able to shift it into Neutral since then, so I cant start it. I know the battery, Carby and everything else is OK. It seems that it just wont physically shift into Neutral. Appreciate any feedback if anyone has dealt with this issue before. :(
