Default Please forgive my stupid question

Got a 85 lt230GE quad with the rear rack. I know the right lever is front brake and right foot pedal is rear brake. Just assumed the left lever was the clutch, but the cable is shot and I've been shifting from 1st to 2nd without using it. I've been reading conflicting info and don't know whether the left lever is another rear brake lever or the clutch.

I'm fixing to repair this for hunting season but want to get the right parts.

Again, please forgive my ignorance. I've fixed so much since I got it last fall I'm lost.

You are pulling the brake. The LT230E Quadrunner was an auto clutch version of the 230S Quad Sport.....

The 230E had racks, auto clutch (no lever) and electric start.
The 230S had a real clutch and a kick starter.

Thank you, I really appreciate your help. Wonder why they put a hand lever up there when there's a foot lever too? Oh well, it's an easier fix than a clutch! For me anyway.

That is pretty common practice to put a secondary brake level on the LH side for ATVs with no clutch. Technically you don't even have to fix it since the foot brake is still there..... I think if I were you I'd leave it broken....lol..... I get screwed up with those LH brakes since I generally ride with a clutch there...... I cannot tell you how many times I've grabbed the LH brake while riding my friends auto machines....

You're 100% correct. I had the flu last week and got a little better and went to the hunting lease Saturday. Having the flu, I did not fix anything as of yet. Put about 4 miles on it crawling over 600 acres and can't tell you how many times I grabbed that lever like I was gonna clutch it.

I put about 15K miles on a street bike commuting to and from the office and I'm so used to clutching. I inspected the cable more closely and it is fresh and good, just not hooked up right. I got a feeling it's not messed up only disengaged, probably for that reason.

It ran great and got me thru a LOT of rough and muddy terrain without a hiccup. I'm going to replace the sock with a proper air filter and let good enough go.
