Default explain this one

We have two suzuki lt80s and 1 pw 50.I have had starting problems with all three.
I cleaned all three carbs and still hard starting.
I remembered from my younger days that i had an xr200 with the same problems.
I also remember that laying the bike on its left side for approx 10 seconds than standing it back up and kicking would start in 1 kick.
So we tried tilting the quads and lo and behold fires right up.
We also tried the pw and it started first kick.
Someone give me the scientific explanation for this phenomenon.
Am i missing a port when cleaning?
Thanks

I would say the tipping on it's side is putting gas into the top of the head. When you hit the starter the valve opening allows the fuel to drop into the cylinder and then fire over. A cold blooded machine can be fixed by a jump in the pilot jet size. This should alleviate the cold starting problems.
