Thinking about the King!
#1
OK guys I am planning on getting a new machine and would like a little input. What are some pros and cons to to King Quad? I am undecided at this point on it or a Honda Foreman 450....help make up my mind for me! Thanks

Well, for the pros:
1. Locking differentals... Point blank (They come in very handy on loose terrain).
2. Very reliable
3. The way the tranny is set up u could pull a damn tank! If you can get the traction the king will pull it.
4. Really personal setting stance (U will feel like the quad is a party of your body).
5. Quite heavy, yet I can through it around pretty well in the deep muck and mud.
6. you'll find the biggest "pro" when u hop on it and crawl out the far end of a mud hole and say, "Jesus, how the hell did I just majke it through that?"
Cons:
1. Underpowered........ I sware, if they ever came out with a king quad 400 or 500 they would have THE perfect quad! But with the tranny the way it is with as many gears as it has, you will have no problem finding the right gear for what ever job your looking to complete.
2. The turning radius sucks! The thing hardly turns, but as you get used to it, u won't even notice it.
3. Now, everyone says the stock tires suck, but I have had no problems with them, I got so used to the polaris tires that the tires on the king quad spoil me, lol...
Good luck! And remember Long Live The King!

I owned a King and was the caretaker of my brothers 97 King.Yes,they can be underpowered, but if you compare them to quads in their own catagorie of CCs,they aint that bad.Just dont ride a 450 first, than hop on the King, you probably wont buy it.Watch out for the drum style BRAKES,they leak in debree/water and are POORLY sealed.Steering radius stinks. These are probably the worst stock tires ever put on a 4x4 ATV,a change over to some REAL mudders and you'll really be ready for some traction.Hard trail riding on the King is not one of its better points either.
The King is a good work horse, with its 3 differant sub trannys,it'll pull your house if it can find the traction. If you dont plan on racing your buddies on the King, and dont mind changing brake components alot [if you plan on mudding alot],the KING could ''SERVE YOU'' justice.

Hey Hunter, I dunno alot about the king quad,,But if you're thinking foreman you better check into the 500 Quadrunner.I"ve had mine over 2 years and run with the big dogs no problem(when you run that machine you ARE a big dog)The front diff doesn't lock up but you can fool it with alittle lite front brake.

I looked at the 500 as well, but I did not like the shifter down on the side of the motor. I think it is for H and L range? Also if the brakes are not sealed very well on the King that may be a problem. Where I hunt is a hell hole when it rains. The water/mud can be up to the gas tank sometimes. I have a 2wd now and you can imagine how tough that is! I am upgrading soon so I am getting some help from my fellow ATV buds! Thanks!

Hey gahunter, I have a 00 king. I recently bought a 01 Sportsman HO, because I was tired of being left by everyone. Now I run up front. It is quite a pleasant ride, when you don't have to eat dust all day..
If you are going to use it to hunt mainly, the King will be great. It does double as a submarine. I've had mine in water that was crossing the seat. Had to stand on the seat. As long as you keep the intake a little above the water she will keep plowing. The water is the only place where the King will leave my Sportsman HO. Good Luck to you.

Hunter,
The shifter on the side is for the high and low range,it won't bother you much , you won't likely use it unless you're bagging a hell of a lot more game than the legal limit! If you bag a Buffalo or somethin' maybe you'll want to pop it into low. But I will admit that the Honda's are a little better in deep water.(not very much, though
)And once you've had those disc brakes on the 'zuki you'll completely forget the honda.(you never adjust them, they feel the same right up until the pads are toast , plus they are easy to replace)Happy huntin, let us know what you decide on!

I think I will go back and ride them again...KQ, foreman and now the 500 QR. The dealer here has both products and a pretty fair track to ride on to see which you like best. He is pushing the suzuki because of all the extras ...2wd/4wd option and H&L ranges. When I make my decision I will let you guys know. Thanks for all the help! I have always been a honda man but I believe the suzuki is starting to get a vote from me....I am sure the folks on the honda forum will be glad to hear that...LOL Thanks again!
