Need some help with my Vinson not running, asap
#1
I have a 2003 Vinson, auto. The problem is that it will not stay running unless I am shaking the whole quad. I never had a problem with it before. I started it up the other morning, it ran fine for 3-4 minutes. Then it died out. I tried starting it again and it would fire up but immediately die out. Then would not start at all. If I shake it, it will start, then die out. If I am on it shaking it, it will stay running. As soon as I stop shaking it it will shut down. I also have to leave the choke on. when I have tried to gradually turn the choke off it dies.
I took the carb apart today, sprayed carb cleaner through out, removed the jets, sprayed them down and reinstalled. Same issue. I even removed and cleaned the spark plug simply because it was easy to get to, that did not make a difference either. Anyone have any advice?

It is your carb, it needs to be taken apart and soake overnite, all passages blown out and the jets need cleaned also. Same thing happened to mine and once I gave the carb a real good cleaning back to normal. Also make sure you have good fuel flow to the carb.

When I tore the carb apart today and sprayed it down with carb cleaner, everything looked clean from the start. There was no crud or build up at all. But I'll take it apart again and give a better soaking. It can't hurt. I had to clean my 400ex carb a while back cause it had sat for a year and varnished up. There was nothing like that in my Vinson.
I'll double check the electrical connections. But, I put in a new battery yesterday, cause the battery was dead. I had been starting it with the pullcord with no problem prior to the quad cutting out. I put the new battery in to be able to rock it while starting. All battery and fuse box connections are tight. I'll look around elsewhere.

That was my next thought, to clean the tank. However, when I pulled the fuel line from the tank petcock, I lost about a quart of fuel, and it did appear to have water in it. There was also no junk coming out of the tank. But I am eliminating all options at this point, so I am going to completely drain the tank and clean it out.
Where is the fuel filter? I did not see one.

Ask on Nyroc's ATV info website. They have a world class Suzuki forum. I know the 700's have it in the gas tank, along with the fuel pump; like cars do.
Shine a flashlight in the tank, you should see it. Since the quad is new, you might get by mixing water remover in with fresh gas, unless it has debris in it.

It's running like new now.
The only thing I did was remove the fuel line from the carb, started it, let run till it shut off, which took about 4 minutes. Then I reinstalled the fuel line, started it, it idled fine but would not let me mess with the throtle position or it would start to die. After idleing for about 4-5 minutes I took it for a spirited drive through my neighborhood. Initially the ride started rough, but very quickly was running like normal.
Very odd, but I am glad it is back in action.
