Default Carb Question-almost running

Newbie here...I just got a 1985 LT250e. It had been sitting for a couple of years. I drained the tank and cleaned the main jet. I finally got it started and it was running good when I saw gas coming out of a line running off the carb.

I have attached a diagram of the carb and circled the part of the carb that the line is attached to. The line runs under the seat area and does not attach to anything. I thought is was a breather, but I am probably wrong.

In the picture, there is is an arrow pointing to the circle. I couldn't change the color of the circle....sorry.

The second pic is of the actual carb and the port is circled in red.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I also noticed the overflow has a steady stream of fuel coming out.

Anybody got a suggestion?

sounds to me like you either have a stuck float, misadjusted float, or leaky needle and seat. did you go thru the float or did you just clean the main jet?

lt230sman,

Thanks for the response. I only pulled the main jet. I pulled it three more times after I posted, read other posts, heard about stuck floats and decided to hit the bowl with a wrench.

I zip tied a bottle to the top breather line and one under the bike to keep gas from going everywhere.

Revved the engine for about a minute and the gas stopped leaking. I don't know if it was something I did or just good luck.

I ran it up/down the road for a few miles and it was running great with no leaks!

I was trying to not have to pull the carb off because I don't have a service manual.

I hope this post helps someone down the line.

Might be a good idea to pull it off one more time and clean the bowl out and the needle and seat. There could be junk in the bottom of it that will clog the jets down the road.--just a thought.
