You can still use the pull start or you could jump start it. Be warned though if you hook it up with jumper cables make sure that the vehicle that it's connected to is not running or you will have an issue.

If possible drain the gas that is in the machine assuming it had not been stabilized. Bring some fresh gas with some seafoam mixed in and a try drain the carb. if not bring a can of carb cleaner and give it a good shot before you start it with the fresh gas.

i dont think im going to be able to tear in to it at the kids house. i was planning on jumping it cause he said it wont pull start since the battery completly dead. i was thinking about bringing some starter fluid and spraying that in when i tryed to start it. Also considerd buying a new spark plug.
thanks for the ideas keep them coming
o and i think the kid is atv challenged

Since you can't tear into it you pretty much have laid out your own plan that should be fine. A bike sitting for a year can be an issue if you have no mechanical ability which it sounds like he is in that boat.

Just bring the jumpers and the starter fluid and give it a shot. As long as the machine does not look well cared for or abused make him a low offer due to the neglect that quad is in. Once you own it a quick once over and a full service and cleaning the carb you will be good to go.

I'm sure with a jump and the fluid it will start right up. if it does not the carb will need to be pulled and cleaned.

Have fun it's a great quad.

thats good i planned on pulling the plug and seeing if it felt like it had good compression and also spraying a shot of fluid down there. then pulling the filter and spraying some directly into the carb. only thing is though can it even run on year old gas?
