Default problem with replacing clutch discs ltz400

here i go again another prob. i just rebuilt my clutch with a kit (springs, both sets plates) from east coast atv put it all back together whent to pull the clutch and there was no pressure on it. i thought the cable came undone at the case but the gear that the cable pulls to push the clutch push rod moved freely. so after taking it apart again and kicking the tires for about an hour i relized the pressure plate was not sitting in far enough to hold the push rod tight enough aganst the pressure plate its like the plates are too thick so i took out the new plates and switched with the better of used one by one till i could get the plate back on enough to work right so now i have 4 new plates and 4 old i looked the part # up online its the right part. what could the problem be?

You didn't seat the plates correctly. Undo the springs and cover plate and rotate the clutch plates until it lines up properly and seats all the way as it should.
Just keep rotating it. You'll know when it sits right. I just don't know what it is you need to look for to ensure it's lined up correctly. Sorry.

(I did the same thing too).

The problem was I didn't adjust the cable I didn't realize there was another spoit to adjust under the handle bars I took it apart yesterday put all new plates in its a 04 by the way 8 plates 7 one size and one diff but after I put them in I adjusted the cable and it worked fine. Why is one plate diff. What would happen if I put one the same as the others in?

why is it different? well you may know the ltz and the drz share many of ther same parts and most of the drz's have a shuter /jutter spring in the clutch ,later years ltz's do to ,different clutch with the same clutch plates just one more than the 03-04 moddles , so if theres no jutter springs then it really does not matter were the different drive plate goes, really you can replace it with a plate just like all the others.
you can also use drive plates from a trx450r personely i feel its a better prodect to use as it has a bigger foot print ( more stuff on the face of the plate)
