hi everyone, nice to meet u. this is my first post but i can see myself visiting often, its cool looking site. i was hoping someone could offer some enlightenment. my 03 z400 starts and seems to run fine, problem is when i get on it climbing a hill, it kinda cuts out and sputters. it has a big gun exhaust and overrev box and the battery has a good charge. when it does run well it runs like a raped ape, then next time it will run crappy again. ive heard some folks say its the stator on that first model year, does this make sense to anyone else? problem seems worse in cold or rainy weather. is the stator a tough change? any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

if it cuts out climbing that sounds like float problems but how it runs with adverse weather makes it sound like an electrical problem. Have seen aftermarket rev boxes go bad that happened on my sons Z400. It might be wise to chk the stator they are easy to chk you just need the specs and a multi meter
