Have any tips for me? Ive got the head free to lift up but the alignment dowels don't seem to want to clear the studs before the top of the head is hitting the neck of the frame

you need to take the alignment pins out of the head use a pair of vicegrips just dont mar it up too bad take out the left one first then you may be ablle to clear the lef and front bolts then twist the the head to the right

Finally got around to working on this again. Your tip about removing the alignment pins from the head worked great, thanks!..
Once we got inside, found the cylinder all scarred, piston skirt is broken away on front and back, and the rod does not pivot freely on the crank, like the rod bearing is junk!! What a mess!! Needs a complete lower end & with the cost of parts/ labor for that I just don't think it's gonna be worth it to fix the quad
