dumb choke question

dumb choke question
I have a 1995 King Quad 300. The choke is on the left handle. My "dumb" question is which way is choked?
The quad seems to run about the same when the lever is down (towards the ground) the direction of the arrow as it does when the lever is up (towards the front of the quad)
THANKS as I am a newbie and have LOTS of questions

On my Kawasaki, up was off, down was on.
With it not making a difference either way, I'd say you might want to check the cable to see if it's broken or way out of adjustment.
