Default Carb Jetting LT230S

I searched and found some good information, but not quite specific enough. I rebuilt my motor with a weisco 67mm piston and redid all the top end. Im running a factory exhaust, stock cam, and stock carb. Basically everything is stock but the piston. I was curious what kind of jetting people are running. Im at factory jets right now and it seems okay for the most part. Doesnt seem like its getting enough air at the top end in the higher gears so Im changing out the airbox for a cone on the carb to try it out.

Elevation here is about 3600 feet, and Im going riding this weekend at a place thats 5000 feet, if that matters.

well the main jet on a stock carb should be 112.5 and if everything is stock except the piston. going up one jet size and opening up your airflow should help. Since you are at 3600ft you might just try opening up the airflow and be ok. normally you want to drop a jet size for every 3000ft. if I remember correctly.

hey guys im new here but i was just looking for some answers. i have a 86LT230S and it runs like a champ once you get into the higher RPM's but when you are in lower RPM's just cruising around or when you are about to let the clutch out to go the fourwheeler just want to completly die. and i know im giving it enough gas but to keep the RPM's up to not stall it and kill it you have to rev it up alot!! i think it might have some carb issues im not sure ive cleaned the air filter and that has not seemed to do any good like i said it does not want to run at all when you are at lower RPM's it just runs like crap. but when so to keep it from dying you really have to get on it but when you are going faster in 3rd 4th 5th gear iit runs fine. please respond thanks!

welcome to the forums!!

Sounds like you need to clean the pilot jet out and the whole carb while you're at it. Clean every thing really good. typically use 2 cans of carb cleaner and really make sure to get everything and i mean everything. the pilot screw setting is 2 turns out. so when you take the pilot screw out to clean the jet, once the jet is cleaned, screw it back in gently until it wont move then turn it back 2 turns. then the pilot jet will be set to factory setting and then you can fine tune it from there.

I just got back from a trip at 5000 feet and the stock jetting on the main worked perfect. The pilot was a little weak so I might switch it out. It has a little trouble with the idle but some tweaking and it idles good.
