I have a 1985 Suzuki Lt 250E that I picked up for cheap off a buddy as it was his parts bike that he never did anything with but take the gas tank. Paid $100 for it said it had no spark. Got it home and started ebaying when I realized that someone did a horrible hack job on the wiring. Picked up a whole new harness and rewired the bike everything worked again and have really good spark. Did a really good cleanup on the carb choke is broken of course like all the other 250's out there but carb in really good shape all jets open and no obstruction. Put bike back together and rolled it outside and hooked up jumpers and hit the starter button needed a little ether to get it firing a little to prime the gas lines and float. Once the carb filled up the bike fired up and idled perfect for 5 min. I goosed the throttle a little and it died and would not restart. Rechecked spark good and gas in carb. Pulled plug and it was dry. Dumped fuel into engine and still won't start. Fired a little head and exhaust got warm a little but boom. Valve opening good checked those and even pulled off exhaust to make sure to rats nests were built inside. Checked oil doesn't smell like gas and put finger over spark plug hole good compression. When I plug in the rectifier the spark dies out and will not work unplug rectifier and excellent spark thats the only issue but it ran without it hooked up... Don't know where to go from here can someone please help? Thanks for your time.

Ive had engines act like this with no air. They suffocate. Good luck. I don't have much to contribute other than that. If you have fuel and spark, that leaves air I would think.
Shoot more Ether into the motor. If that lights it up you know it's a fuel delivery problem given the plug was dry.

Thank you for the reply I have tried lots of ether and I get it to start hitting a little but will not hookup. Think i'm gonna try a new carb but wondering if the rectifier not being hooked up has anything to do with it. When I hook the rectifier up I do not get spark unplug it and get spark back. Possible to have too much spark? The spark on the plug is bright blue and kinda erratic seems to spark on every stroke of the engine. Kinda out of my league as I do not usually work on ATVs. Stuck between those two issues right now any ideas?

Sounds like the rectifier is bad.
Im not well educated on this stuff either and have been plodding through some issues with a 230 and 250 I have. It sounds like you have a little gremlin screwing with you.
Wish I could be a better or help, or at least have more confidence in what I think it is.
