ok so i have a 1986 lt230sg and i have some problems with it

for one thing the engine, it is impossible to kick start it when its cold. the only way i can get it to start is for another quad to tow it then pop the clutch. also it takes a while for the engine to warm up. and also the only tie it will ever idle is when it is hot.

i recently rebuilt the carb and i know for a fact that its tuned perfectly because my dad tuned it and he fixes vehicles for a living.

also its performance... its not that it doesnt have enough power (it doesnt) but the power is all over the place. one minute it can have so much torque it will pop 1st gear wheelies by the tap of the throttle and the next it barely has enough to start moving

i know a few other people that have the exact same two quads that i have.
1. lt230sg
2. 2005 yamaha kodiak 450
the kodiak does 55 in 2wd
the 230 does about 50

from what they tell me the 230 should dust the kodiak

so what needs to be done to it

and dont tell me that my dad tuned it so it would have less power because i have gone 135mph on my snowmobile and i have been driving saince i was 3 so my dad knows i lik to go fast

 

Try adjusting the valves. If intake is too tight it is hard to start, and will cause low power.
