Lightbulb Low Fuel Death Rev?

Why does my LT250 rev out when it runs out of fuel? Lately it seems like I have to ride on reserve no matter how much is in my tank, I have a clear fuel line so I can see it still get fuel set to ON and not reserve. Today I ran out of gas, it started idling higher and wouldn't stop I had to end up running it down in a high gear because the kill switch didn't work. It's not sucking in air I rode it all day just fine, recent complete rebuild I've only taken it out a few times. Is this a petcock problem?

Two strokes do that when you run out of fuel. But its an easy fix.

Yes, yes they do. Oddly enough, my LT's were more likely to do this. The one time I ran the TRX out of fuel, it was running normal and just died.

What causes this? Air bubbles in the fuel line?

I can't attest to bubbles in the fuel line. 2 strokes are just more sensitive to changes in air/fuel mixture than the 4's. When you get down to those last dregs in the tank it is not replenishing the float fast enough. Same amount of air + less fuel = lean condition.

Also, you may well have some debris in the tank and/or petcock that is clogging the fuel flow.

You could always dump the clutch in a higher gear with the brakes on, should kill it if it is running away.
