Default 86 suzuki lt250r

hey, new atv connection forum member here and i just got one question i currently have my plastics stripped to look at everything and i noticed the plate for the clutch where the cable runs into that it moves freely (i dont have the cable in it as im replacing it) is it supposed to spring back when you pull it by hand? mine just moves freely is something wrong? thanks in advance i hope to be a lifetime member of the forum as long as my bike runs

Yes, something is wrong. The clutch cable connects from the lever to a spindle that seats itself into the crankcase. The spindle may not be seated into the clutch basket properly, or you've got a broken spindle/clutch basket.
