need help with 250 2004 ozarka

need help with 250 2004 ozarka
I went to ride my 250 and when i went to put it in gear, it wont go into gear, it sounds like its trying to catch a gear but sounds like a chain going around on a sprocket but wont catch, hopefully its not a big problem. any help will be appreciated.
