Default 1986 230 Suzuki quadrunner

Hi I have a 230 Suzuki and was wondering if you can hook up a headlight with out useing the battery, the bike doesent have a battery on it and haven't had one sence last year and would love to have a head light hooked up with out haveing a battery on it can you bypass this problem?, and another question is how do you set the timeing on these bikes?

Im not sure about the light. There are two coils on your stator (under left cover) one is the primary that powers the spark plug and the second runs your light and charges your battery. Maybe try finding your hot off the second coil. As for timing, there is no advance on the stator, you set your crank TDC and lineup the cam gear marks and go. Go to the lt230svault.com for photos of timing.

Warning: running an ATV that has a battery in the electrical system without a
battery can damage your regulator and CDI box. You will also find that in this
type of system the stator's charging coil(s) will probably put out too high a voltage
to use directly with a 12V light. Not to mention the flicker.

ATVs that use no battery still use a regulator to control the stator output and run
the lights and ignition.

Yea I tryed all the wires with a light tester and only one wire was working and that was The main wire for the spark, the light led up but not very high besides that no other wires worked

If I were you, I would just buy a battery. That is going to be the easiest fix and the other guy is right about the damage and flicker. Even a cheap small 12v battery will work, I suspect you are pull starting it anyway so just break down and fix it right. You will be happier in the long run I promise.
