zilla identification

I don't know any model numbers, but here are some ways to tell if it is an 87:
1. Count the head studs. 6= 1987 Model 7=88-90 Model
2. Look at the upper A-arms. 1987 Model had one bolt secure each upper a-arm whereas the 88-90 used two bolts per upper a-arm.
3. While you are looking at the upper A-arms, notice if they are made with round tube or rectangular. The rectangle metal is the 1987 model and the round tube is for the 88-90.
Congratulations on your purchase. You will not be disappointed.

hey thanks for the info, I heard something about the later years of 500r's having 12mm head studs instead of 10mm? or is that just a modification?
What do you mean by the A-arms?my upper a arms are tubular shaped, and they are attached by 2 bolts with one for the end of each part of the arm, sorry for my basic questions, I'm new with quads and their parts, I'll look at Mr. dunes 87 500r, and see if theres any resemblence, unless he has a newer style frame and a arms..I'll get back to you, thanks bud. -Mike

hey man, my frame looks VERY different from the front view, it even has a little bumper setup, which isnt after market, and hasa little pad on it, I'll take some pics of it tonight and get back to you, i dont think its a 87 anymore! I see what you meant by the square tubing, also, one of my wheels ***** in a little bit? everything is stock but I heard this might have been flat tracked early on in its life, is there something I can adjust? Thanks!

Yes, it sounds like your zilla is not an 87. The stock front grab bar on all models was a little thing with a rubber pad on it. I still have it on mine. As far as the wheel being cocked, I gather you mean it shows more camber than it ought to. This could be bad. There is no adjustment on the stock a-arms. Some aftermarket companies offer arms with adjustable camber, though I don't know if any of these companies sell the arms in question for a zilla.
You will love your 500. They are great quads and may be collector's items some day.

I think they will be collector's items someday, with todays breed of 4 strokes, there wont be too many high perf anymore. Did the 88-90's have any advantages or disadvantages over 87's? WHat did you mean by the 1 bolt a arms?
Do you think I have a bent spindle? It looks that way, maybe I can straighten it or get a new one? I'll take some pics tonight of it and send them to you if you want,
This zilla has had an interesting life, it was owned by 3 different kids, being sold cheap each time until I got it, now its a keeper. Thanks man
