A FEW ZILLA QUESTIONS
#1
I JUST BOUGHT A 89 QUADZILLA LAST WEEKEND,IT IS STILL ALL STOCK EXCEPT FOR NERF BARS (STILL HAD THE ORIGINAL TIRES DRY ROTTED SOME THOUGH). IT HAD NOT BEEN CRANKED IN ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF,AND HAD BEEN LEFT SITTING WITH GAS IN IT. MY PROBLEN IS I CANT GET TO CRANK BY USING THE KICK STARTER. BUT IF I PULL IT, IT WILL CRANK INSTANTLY AND IDLE FINE. I WAS WONDERING IF THERE ARE ANY SECRETS OR TRICKS TO CRANKING IT. ALSO ONCE UNDERWAY AND RUNNING IT SEEMS TO BOG DOWN JUST AS IT GETS INTO THE POWERBAND GOOD.I'M NOT VERY FAMILIAR WITH ZILLAS THIS IS ONLY THE THIRD ONE I'VE EVER SEEN,I JUST GOT TIRED OF MY RAPTOR AND 400EX GETTING SPANKED IN DRAGS BY BANSHEES AND WANTED TO BEAT THEM WITH SOMETHING BESIDES A BANSHEE ANY ANSWERS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

DO THE ABOVE AFTER YOU REMOVE THE CARB AND CLEAN IT OUT. REMOVE THE FLOAT BOWL AND CLEAN THE FLOATS AND SPRAY OUT EVERYTHING WITH CARBB CLEANER. YOUR PROBLEM IS THAT GAS CRYSTALIZES WHEN IT SITS, PLUS THE OIL AND GAS MIX SEPERATES AND THE OIL WILL TACK THINGS UP. YOU CAN RUN YOUR SCOOT AT 32 TO 1 WITH PREMIUM GAS AND USE A PREMIUM OIL. I RUN MINE AT 50 TO 1 WITH 112 OCTANE LEADED GAS AND SYNTHETIC OIL. THE LEAD IN THE GAS IS A LUBRICANT PLUS MY ZILLA IS JUST ABOUT MODDED TO THE MAX.

Thanks guys, I cleaned and sprayed out the carb, drained all the gas and it cranked and ran great. The thing is really amazing! It out ran everything out on sunday banshees included. But it would still occasionally bog down near the top of the power band,it did it once at the top of a pretty nasty hill. What could be causing this? Also during the last race I missed 2nd gear and it revved up really high, it never ran right after that, it would just bog down then it seemed like I could hear it kinda whistling out the pipe. I only rode a few minutes to get back to the truck after that because i was afraid it might be something serious. It would also backfire as it bogged down if that helps any.

Check your head gasket. I don't know for sure if this is it or not but my friends 92 quadracer just blew a gasket the other day and so I thought this might have happened to you. If this isn't it then call your local shop or post again.

I would have to go check the jetting and the plug, pull the plug and look at it, if it is black then you fouled it and your jetting is probably a bit big on the main. the main jet controls you top end so if it a high end bog then that is where you should start. Also check and make sure all the vent line on the carb are clear.
