I went to put a new clutch cable on today because my other one was starting to fray. The clutch worked good like usual, but when i took the old cable off it made a weird noise. I then put the new one on but the clutch didn't work. there is a little free play in the shaft coming out of the motor. I tried adjusting the cable thinking that wasn't good enough but it still didn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be wrong? i have no idea

MORE INFORMATION! Doesn't work how? Weird noise from where and how did it sound? If the 250 is designed like the 500, and the clutch arm on the side cover was allowed to move backwards, the "rack and pinnion" mechanism may have come apart. Under normal circumstances, I don't think this can happen. However, old parts can do some unexpected things. If the arm is bound up (won't come forward) you will have to remove the side cover and inspect the situation. This is a fairly simple task but, as always, get a service manual if you don't already have one.

I got my clutch fixed. I took the side case off and went through the whole clutch. I didn't find anything wrong with it but it works now.

Thanks for the help, -chuck
