always with the 150mph raptor bullshit!!!!

I just want to march in the local yami dealer like nicholas cage in gone in sixty seconds looking at a Raptor saying "this is the one that all my freinds at school have!" and then go for the banshee and say "will it go past 160 mph? I need a quad that can beat a Raptor" or something like that...

Next time they say the Banshee or Raptor is so fast say, do you stand by that claim, and if they say yea tell them to let you take the Raptor and a Radar gun to a long straightaway, then bet it doesn't go that fast and make some $$$$$$

It is a voluntary agreement between the CPSC and the manufacturers that they follow the CPSC's recommendations about age limits. It is not the law. The dealers follow the manufacturers agreement. They will not get in any legal trouble by selling a quad over 90cc to someone under 16. They may however have the manufacturer on there tails if they find out though. In any case, it's BS that someone who doesn't even know a kid or his riding ability can decide which quad is right for him.

QuadMXer,
I beg to differ with you,but I think your information is not correct?Im pretty certain it is unlawful for dealers to sell outside of the recommended age/cc limits for kids.

Im in the ATV safety aspect of our sport and visit about 9 differant dealers in my area about 2 times a month.I have been told by SEVERAL dealership managers that they have been FINED for selling an ATV outside the manufactures recommendation.CPSC randomly sends out ''spotters''to various dealerships to see if they are adhering to this redicules recommendation,if not, they get fined.

I've even heard of dealerships be closed down for not conforming to this.Check your info and let me know what you find out?

Thanks,
Bill

You may very well be correct muddy, but who did they get fined by? Was it the CPSC, or was it actually someone from the state or U.S. government? I don't have first hand knowledge of this info. How bout it, anyone else know for sure?

While some dealers do sell to underage kids, the consequences of a dealer getting caught are enormous!

I'm not sure about WHO actually fines the dealer. I know that it isn't the OEM. BUT if an OEM {Ex:Yamaha} finds out about a sale to an underage child, the OEM has a committe to determine whether or not the franchise is to be removed from their dealership!

Alot of dealers get by doing this anyway by pretending to play stupid, by selling a 250lb. man a machine that's over the cc limit for a child but to small for him. {Ex:Yamaha Breeze}

Honda,Yamaha, and Suzuki actually have dozens of people on the payroll who do nothing but scout dealers across the U.S. by pretending to be interested in an adult quad for their child.

Trust me they do it, and you can never tell who they are! You just get a notice in the mail complimenting your sales department for a good job!!!!

These stories you guys have mentioned here crack me up! I've seen my share of these yahoo salemen get jobs for us. They don't usually last a week, because every customer who comes in knows more than the salesmaen. No one is going to buy anything from someone who knows nothing of the product!

Keep the stories coming!

QuadMXer,
Im not certain who administers the fines, but I will find out.I'll get ahold of one of my dealers soon and also the President of the Mich All Terrain Vehicle Assoc and see what they say?

I have also heard of dealerships being closed down for the sale of ATVs to under age kids.KNOWSALOT states that in his above post to.ATV salesman also get a 25 dollar certificate [im not sure from who?]when they are found adhearing to the age/cc recommendations.

You are right Bill about the $25 certificate. A couple of the OEMs do that. The money comes from the same department that funds ATV safety awareness and ad campaignes.

By the way Bill, I would like to say that while I don't know you in person, I can tell from all your posts that you are a possitive influence on the sport in general and we could use more guys like you.

What brand OEMs do you use in your ATV Safety Courses or do you use different ones?

Who cares? How many younger than 16 year old kids are going to go into a shop by themselves and buy a quad anyway? One in a million. In most states you can get a drivers license by age 15, but you can't buy a full-sized fourwheeler?

Because in most cases, the machine just doesn't fit them. The CPSC has been looking into doing the same with the dirt bikes. This is from a petition that was made by the American Pediactrics Association last summer.

While I don't agree by going by simply age, there does have to be some guidelines to be met to keep our sport out of the lawsuit happy days of the 80s.

The three wheeler guys said it was impossible, but the three wheeler was banned because of irresponsible use and children riding full size machines.

You can't compare this guideline to the automobile laws. Sure a 15 year old kid can get a driver's license in most states but I have never seen a kid drive a Freightliner loaded with 20,000 lbs. of steel pass me on the interstate either.
