On my 88 suzuki 250 quadrunner - It won't crank. The gas IS making to the carb fine. I've taken the plug and held it close to metal, and it is firing. But no gas is making it to the plug. There is good compression. What should I check next?

the jets might be clogged in your carb..take the carb aparts and clean it really good..if you have a compresor use that to blow out the jets. good luck

I have already cleaned the carb good. Did not find any problems in there.

Bey a can of starting fluid and see if it'll run on that (just a few seconds will do). If it does then it's in your fuel system. Check the pump if you have one. If you cleaned the carb make sure you put it back together correctly. Sometimes a very small part could cause a problem. Also check the float level. When you remove the carb there should be fuel in the bowl.

Good Luck,
Rob

I have used starter fluid with no results. Float seems fine. There is gas in the bowl. There is no pump.

If if won't run on starting fluid then it sounds like you don't have a fuel problem. Any and everything I tried will run on starting fluid. Keep spraying and it'll keep running(if everything else is ok). WD-40 will even help to start an engine in a pinch.

if your getting fire then maybe you should look at the timing.

Medic42, Rob is correct! If you have gas in the cylinder, it will at least back fire as long as there's a spark. Sounds like a fuel problem to me. Or you may have a crankcase problem that you didn't notice before. You said, you have good compression?
I wrote about four more pages here before I realized it. Bottom line is, you need a mechanic to look at your quad. It's worth it to have it repaired the correct way. A very smart transmission builder told me one time,"Chuck, sometimes it's better not to do things yourself". He's been rebuilding my A727-B trannys ever since. He's 80 years old now. Don't know what I'll do without him.

hey how is it going? this is new to me just came across the site. i have the same proplem with my 89 250. if i get it running the rpm sky rocket and runs for a bit then won't run. i am sending it in the shop friday, enough pulling my hair out. rebuilt carb, new gaskets, plugs you name it want to play in the snow see how it will go. When i know what the problem is i will tell you so you can fix it yourself or just fix it right at a shop.
