86 LT250R swingarm question, please help!
#1
I have a 86 LT250R. The swingarm is stock and cracking bad. I ride pretty hard whoops and jump about 7 feet up with a flat landing. If I get a new stock swingarm will it hold up better? Is the reason the old one cracked partly because of time's stress on it? I hope I can just get a new one instead of needing a $900 swingarm and carrier i cant afford. Please help! Thanks.

The stock 85-86 swingarm is very weak and it won't hold up. A good rear shock that is set up for you and your riding style will help alot but it will eventually crack again. You can convert your swingarm over to the 87-90 swingarm which was alot stronger. I have one I would sell you that comes with a RPM tappered bearing carrier for $400. You can also contact C&D Racing (308) 368-7805 I heard that they will be making swingarms for the LT250R's very soon that you can use your stock bearing carrier in. Hope this helps

Hey Roostin,
I just purchased a Chromed Laeger -2 Swingarm from RPM Motorsports and when I received it it doesn't have a place for the shock mount (the one that drop down in the middle of te swingarm) only a rear mount where it looks like the link is supposed to be. Is this swingarm for a "No Link" type of set up? No one ever asked me if that was what I'm running. Does this make sense? If so, Am I supposed to go with some sort of different shock or kit or what? A no link swingarm just doesn't make sense to me because we your on the gas hard the suspension will get stiff. Right?
Does anybody have any info. RPM can't seem to give me thr right answers.
Also, It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to use my stock axle carrier because the Laeger's rear axle carrier housing is complete all the way across, not giving me any way to adjust my chain tension. Is this true, will I need an after market axle carrier and what type will I use? A TRX250R type or what?
Thanks all,
Joe

Roostin, would your swingarm hold up for a small MX track and 6 ft jumps with no landing? Thanks!

Yes the swingarm would hold up very well. It is a very strong swingarm compared to the 85-86 swingarm. The RPM tappered bearing carrier is also alot stronger than stock and you won't have to replace the bearings as long as you grease it.

There would be no modifications to switch to the square style swingarm needed.
