LT250R Swingarm
#1
I just purchased a Chromed Laeger -2 Swingarm from RPM Motorsports and when I received it it doesn't have a place for the shock mount (the one that drop down in the middle of te swingarm) only a rear mount where it looks like the link is supposed to be. Is this swingarm for a "No Link" type of set up? No one ever asked me if that was what I'm running. Does this make sense? If so, Am I supposed to go with some sort of different shock or kit or what? A no link swingarm just doesn't make sense to me because we your on the gas hard the suspension will get stiff. Right?
Does anybody have any info. RPM can't seem to give me the right answers. (They are still great guys thought)
Also, It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to use my stock axle carrier because the Laeger's rear axle carrier housing is complete all the way across, not giving me any way to adjust my chain tension. Is this true, will I need an after market axle carrier and what type will I use? A TRX250R type or what?
Thanks all,
Joe

Why the heck can't RPM tell you whats wrong? What year is your quadracer? I have a 86 LT250R and was thinking of purchasing a RPM swingarm. Ask them if you need a Honda style carrir for it or if stock will work. I dont understand your shock mount problem.

love250x,
It is an 85. About the setup..if you look at your swingarm (stock) and see where the shock is mounted in betweem the swingarm and follow it up the shock, the shock then mounts into the swivel thats attached to your frame, then following it still, it has a small link (like a rod, that the nitrogen bottle is attached to) that is attached to the swingarm (back a bit from the shockmount located on the swingarm). Well anyway this swingarm has only the rear mount, not the shock mount. It looks like its supposed to be used for the shock coming directly from the frame to the swingarm with no link (Full Floater Suspension) in between. Does this make sense? Do you want to buy it? haha well......
roostin.. doesn't the 91-92 setup use the Full Floater suspension or does it have only one mount?
Thanks guys.

The linkage system on the 91-92 is kinda like the 250R and 400EX the shock mounts to the linkage and the linkage mounts on top of the swingarm. in order to run a no link rear on a LT250R 85-90 frame you would have to completely change the frame and on the bearing carrier they might be running a 250R or 400EX bearing carrier but the carriers are about a 1/4" smaller around than the LT250R's carrier but it is a possibility. If that is what they are running for a carrier then you would have to get a 250R or 400EX axle, and hubs and caliper mount which would end up costing quite a bit. Hope this helps ya

looking at the top of the'91-92 swingarm, the linkage mount on the swingarm is on top, about 3" wide. between that mount anod the swingarm pivot, there's a hole through the swingarm where the shock and linkage pass through the swingarm, and the linkage then mounts to the frame cross tube below the swingarm pivot.

greenbud,
i have a chromed plated laeger -2 swingarm that i dont know what it is for. haha, but serious, this is a $750 swingarm (very slightly used, 1 chain scratch) that a person could resell on Ebay for around $500-600 bucks!
Is there an crack or stress cracks on the swingarm?
