I just bought a 99 King Quad a couple of months ago (only have 130 miles on it) and have treated it pretty easily. The other day when I was cleaning it I noticed a pretty good size crack in the plastic behind the seat (maybe 6 - 8 inches long). I weigh about 220 lbs. What could have caused this to happen. Do I have to worry about anything structurally or is the plastic behind the seat more for show. Also is this an item that should be covered under the warranty?

Thanks for any suggestions

-Mike

Hey mstephan, the plastic is mainly for looks, and to keep you dry, or drier, I should say when you're mudding. I don't know why it would have cracker unless something hit it. I have a 00 model, and I have abused it severely, and it hasn't showed any signs of failure. It might be worth asking the dealer about if, it's still under warranty. Of course, they will try to get out of it, if at all possible.. Good luck.

mstephan,
I have a 96 KQ & It developed a cracked plastic fender mud flap when it was in Warranty & the service mgr at my dealer said it was a defective piece of junk & replaced it at no charge

I had the same problem a few months ago, but the crack was my fault. I was stepping onto the seat and lost my balance, putting too much weight on the plastic behind it. Unfortunately, the warrenty did not cover it. In addition, the front fenders will start to tear over time, especially the section closest to the engine.

I have over 800 miles on my quad in a little over a year and it's been flipped underwater, slammed into cypress stumps, and more. It's a great machine, don't sweat the small stuff.
