suzuki Z400

the compression ratio is 11:3:1 on this machine. the raptor is i believe 9:2:1 and the 400ex is 9:1:1. what is the difference in all of these compression ratios. what does the cpompression provide for a quad exactly?

yea i have wanted a quad for a long time and always like the 400ex. but i dont have a huge cash flow cuz i am still going to school. i was thinking about buying a used 400ex, but since i heard about this quad coming out i have really wanted to get one. two of my friends have the 400ex and i will only be just as fast as them. so i want to have something a lil faster.

<< so why do u say i would need to run at least 83 octane in the Z400...? is that because the compression ratio is higher? >>
They haven't made 83 octane since the 1600's! The general rule is the higher the compression, the higher the octane you need to run. That's why when people run racing gas in stock compression motors, they are wasting their money big time. If someone runs 93 octane in a high compression motor, it will ping and knock.

my bad...i had a typo...if u read through the rest of the forum you would have seen that i meant 93. i have not had a quad since i was a lil guy riding like my honda 70 and yamaha 80. so i would not know the difference between the compression and octane to use. i also am not into cars very much or any other racing so i would not know. thanks for clearing that up for me.
