KingQuad

Im thinking about getting a KinQuad this summer. My dad has a 91 or 92 250 with over 4000 miles on it and i never could stop it. I was wondering if anybody has ridden with the big quads(400-600) and how there KingQuad compared.

I had a 87 KQ,and a 97 KQ.Very dependable engines in both of them.In 1987 I selected the smaller engine [250cc] KQ with it's true 4x4 over the larger displacement 350cc limited slip Honda's.Today,I still feel the same way about true 4wd,only now I ride a 500cc Polaris Sportsman.Twice the engine CC's of the 87 KQ.On casual trail rides, the KQ will go with any 4x4 quad. The KQ is a VERY strong puller to.It will pull just about anything as long as you can get the traction. On tight, winding trails,it's poor turning radius is sometimes hampering to you.Sometimes you'll use reverse alot compared to the other make quads in your group. In mud bogs, this quad displays the worst sealed drums of any drum type quad currently on the market.A complete cleaning of the brakes will be neccessary if you mud alot.Riding with the big boy's?Really depends how they ride. With us it's not a real big problem either. My bro John rides his 97 KQ with a group of us.We really dont trail ride that fast.He keeps up.Until he bought new Vampire tires for the KQ,he struggled to keep with us in the snow. Will I ever go back to the smaller displacement 4x4?My answer to that is NO.There is just to much of a differance in the power catagorie between the two.But thats me,perhaps somebodys likes/dislikes will be differant from mine.Good Luck===BILL

I have a 00 model kq. I haven't had a problem with the brakes as of yet. I keep it under water and mud all the time. I don't know about the front brakes, but the rear brake has been changed. It is a sealed unit now, verses the drum on the older ones. Bill is right about the tires. The KQ doesn't have enough clearance, from the factory. I ordered a set of Vampire tires one size taller on front and rear, so I can compete in the mud. The bigger quads will accelerate quicker out of turns, and will leave it in a race. But, like Bill says, who races on the trails. So far, I've been able to follow them everywhere. I'm pleased with it's performance overall.
Each of them is better at one thing than the others. You just have to decide what You'd like to be better at. If it's pulling, the kq's superlow subtransmission is going to be hard to beat. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the info, when i said i couldn't stop it i didn't mean brakes, i ment it was unstoppable. I've only stuck it 2 times and bottomed it out bad both times. ALso does that 350 have enough power for the vampires? And do you know the top speed of your KQ?
