Hey there readers.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good way to keep the Zilla motor
from vibrating the 7 head nuts loose, and the spark plug.

I just replaced the head gasket, so I probably should have asked this before I did that.
Anyway. Is it a bad idea to put thread lock "red" on the head stud threads and plug threads? I know this stuff is strong, but its not THAT strong. I WOULD be able to get them off when its time for a top end job. But, would the thread lock on the threads prevent the head from squishing the head gasket properly?

Any suggestions are welcome. I would be willing to dish out another 20 bucks for another gasket IF I KNEW that those nuts arnt going to back off anymore.

-Matt

ps. The Zilla runs GREAT. No other problems with it.

You might be able to get away with it on the studs, but I wouldn't try on the Spark plug threads, chances are you'll foul a plug and it will be a bitch to get off. You should just spend the money to have your head O-Ringed.

if you just put a new head gasket on the machine ,then you need to go and retorque the head bolts after a couple hours of operation.then you won't have the problem.i've never known it to be a problem with the 500.or any other machine that i know of.
and no don't use loc-tite.after you install your head and gasket ,torque the head to spec then run the motor for a while til it's been up to full operating temparature, then let it cool and then retorque the head agin to spec.ok thats the proper way to do it then you probably will never have the nuts come loose again.

Sweet Tecate killerkx, I always liked the look of that bike. Too bad Kawasaki didn't manufacture them for a couple more of years. They are pretty rare in my neck of the woods, I have yet to even see one in person.

You might want to check the crank bearing's to see if they're not getting sloppy ,also you might want to check the counter balancer too,I've never had that problem with mine.It will viberate cuz of the compession and the stroke but not like that.

I agree w/ ZillaDaddy..

vibration with the zill can increase as the crank bearing to case clearances increase.
but usually when this is happening... you can't keep ANY bolts/nuts tight, not just the head bolts and plug..
The mighty 500 can vibrate your teeth out if something is wrong.

The easiest way to check for this is to take the cover of the mag (Left side when sitting on it) grab the flywheel and see if you can feel any perceived motion (up and down) when getting rough with it.

Good luck.

As with any Quad/bike you should always retorque the bolts every couple months. I have an 87 Quadzilla and tighten up the bolts every couple months. I used to lose all kinds of bolts on the trails. Also about the lock tite read the bottle . SOme of it says not to be used with alumium. The studs should be fine.
I just finshed my zilla last weekend. It has been down since labor day. I was missing 3 rd gear. Go ti this link to see thenew pics:
