91 lt250 power valve help
#1
I took the jug off and the arm for the power valve doesn't feel like it is hooked to anything. So I took the side cover off and it has all the ***** in place but it feels sloppy and it still doesn't feel like it is hooked to anything inside. Is it supposed to be or how does it work? Thx

I also have a 91' lt250r. My motor is currently apart getting the bottom end re-done. I am pretty sure that my power valve arm did the same thing. I couldn't tell you if that means it works or not though, but mine is the same way as yours.

i posted the same question a month ago. the powervalve should be tight not being able to move freely. a friend of mines LT's powervalve moved and riding mine he felt the difference so he sent his in to get it fixed.

engineer babbling:
the powervalve actuator works on friction that is induced by the idler gear. the ammount of frictional force varies directly with engine RPM. the power valve spring tension is very small and, if your valve isn't gummed up, requires only a small input to open it from/by the actuator. the actuator needs to move almost freely.... that way it robs the least ammount of power from your engine to operate the valve and it opens it at the same RPM consistently. this RPM depends on the factors mentioned and the spring tension set by turning the **** on the side of the cylinder. standard setting is one turn counter-clockwise from zero.... this should cause the valve to open at about 6500 RPM.... which is tuneable to raise or lower the RPM at which the valve opens if you know what you're doing.... if you don't, just set it to factory spec.
did i loose ya?

I understand. I just wanted to make sure because the only other powervalve I ever had apart was on a 89 cr250 and it was a mechanical actuator. Just making sure it is right before I put it back together. Thanks for your input.
