What should I get
#1
I have a choice between a King Quad 300 or Eiger 400, I will be using the Atv for yard work, pulling and trail riding.
I'am not into very fast trail riding (inless I'am on a snowmobile)I need a machine that will pull a snowmobile trailer, core's of wood, and yard work.
Machine needs to trouble free, easy to work, parts easy to get and low cost, work in wet weather, mud and snow in the mountains, able to take the heat and I good resale if I should need it in the future.
King Quad 300 sounds the best for what I want, just afraid it'll be to slow trail riding ?
Can the Eiger handle to same work load as a King Quad 300?
Thanks for any kind of work you can assist me on and I need replies asap.
Thanks

If speed is the real issue, you may want to go with the Eiger. I will be honest I have been looking at the Eiger myself. I have looked at them a couple of times only for the performance issue. I have a 2000 King Quad and really enjoy it, but I am a born racer. I have looked at the Eiger thinking it would probably be a little faster in the open fields and possibly in open trails. But, The reason I can't buy the Eiger is the work aspect. As much as I got the King for play, I use it for work much more. In fact the other day I headed for the woods with the intent to see if I could move a couple of logs that I should definetly gotten the tractor for. You know how it goes. You know that you shouldn't be working the quads this hard, but you still want to see if it can do it. The logs were both about 30-35 ft. long. One was about 8in. in dia. all the way down, the other was 8 in. on one end and 12-13 in. on the other. I just pulled the winch cable out a little on the front and wrapped in around the log, put it in reverse and gave it a pull. The little one was not a problem, the big one made the King earn its keep. .But it earned its keep. Yes, I had to lock it in super low, but at least I had the option. The Eiger has low but even with the 400 and low I not so sure it would have done the work. I've talked to the dealer and he agreed with me. He's the one thats the salesman. As much as I like performance, this thing is a workhorse, and I does a good job on the trail and I can't take the trade-off in work and play. You have to decide what you will be doing the most and make your decision from there. The super low is excellent in the really technical stuff also.

Check out the suzuki vinson. This is one awesome machine that will be able to handle all of the jobs that you mentioned and will still have the speed for the trails. I was really impressed with the handling and of course... suzuki reliability.

Take a good look at the Eiger and the trail riding aspect. I researched 400cc quads extensively when i was looking for my wifes machine and the Eigers overall price/performance value is remarkable. It should be on par with the 300 you mentioned for your work requirement and you get an outstanding trial bike as icing...not to mention a better resell value. The Vinson, like the Eiger, is one of the new utility/sport quad hybrids but that doesnt have a dramatic drain on their utility capabilities. The Vinson is a good recommendation and would easily do the workload the 300 would do...but it is not the value the Eiger is (around here you can get a Eiger 4x4 for $4999 and Vinson 4x4 for $6199 respectively)and the Eiger should be able to handle your utility needs as well despite the salesmans comments.
I ended up going with an 01 Kodiak out of the box for $5100 last November...but it was a tough run between it and the Eiger and i went that route as I bought my Prairie at the same time from the same dealer...would go with the Eiger now instead of the $6200 they are asking for the 02 Kodiak around here. And as far as sports/utilities not working like their true utility counterparts...I have a prairie 650 that everyone told me was more of a sport bike then a real utility quad like the 700 polaris...out of all the pull tests I have seen or read, the prairie won half and lost half...it neither won or loss by more then half a second...my work needs can live with that...they beef up the suspension and gear abit different...but the performance of these hybrids easily make up for anything you might lose in the gearing when it comes to work requirements...Suzuki has decided to play ball in the ATV market and no matter what you choose all three are solid bikes...my two cents here
