Questions about the new Z and hills???
#1
I'm going from a Polaris 400 2 stroke to the new Z-400 and am a little worried about the front end coming up while I'm climbing dunes. We're going to St. Anthony the middle of June so we'll be in the land of the steep dunes so anyone with info for me would be appreciated! Thanks, Tracy

I've made a couple of trips to St. Anthony's and countless trips to Little Sahara Utah (the real Little Sahara) and the dunes are big like you said. If your front end feels likes it's going to lift, at that point shift your weight forward over the bars as far as possible. Also, if you feel you don't have the momentum to climb to the top, turn around as soon as you loose your drive. You will avoid a rollover. Hope this helps.

I have 3 guide rules:
1)If you don't feel comfy with it, leave it alone!
2)If you just have to do it, try to waite and watch someone else do it, pay atention to their aproch speed, and if\where they had difficulty so you can improve!
3)If the above isn't possible, GASS IT, hit it as fast as you dare! You can always let up, but rarely can you speed up!
Hill climbing can be very dangerous, unfortunantly, it is the most gratifying, WHEN YOU MAKE IT !!!
Be Careful, Have Fun, and Good Luck!!!

This is good advice. Keep your body weight over the handle bars at all times when climbing any steep hills and don't let off the gas unless your wheeling over because like GTV said, gas it hard because you can always let up but its hard to gain speed when hill climbing.

Hey Tracy. My number 1 important steep hill climbing advice is MOMENTUM. Without momentum you just have to work harder getting up those steep ones. Remember: when in doubt; GAS IT!!

The best way I've found to keep the front end of my Raptor down going up steep sand hills is to put more air pressure in the rear tires. More air pressure means less traction. So instead of it trying to wheelie going uphill, it just throws a bigger roost. Sand hills are all about momentum so traction isn't a big factor.

tracy, you'll be OK. Follow Buddah's advice and you'll be fine. Really, remember that if you start losing momentum turn around while you still can. There is nothing worse than digging in and having to back down these hills.
Go to my site and look under videos. I recently posted 20 vids of St. Anthony; most of these are at Chokecherry and Devil's dune.
