z400 suspension mods

I'm 215 and I set the front 1 notch before the softest. I can really hit the whoops hard and it is very controllable. I also softened up the back a half turn on compression and added 1.25 turns on rebound to help keep it planted. Big difference. I've hit some whoops and rutts going way too fast since I didn't know they were there. It just absorbed it when I actually was thinking emergency room. Talk about confidence gained from that stuff!!

If you plan on doing ANY jumping, even small ones, tighten up the front. I too am 170 and have bottomed them out by landing (wrong of course) but who lands perfect every time? I got mine all the way stiffened and it rides just fine with no more bottoming out.

I saw an interesting mod at Pismo this weekend. A guy had put what he called "2+1" honda ex a-arms on the front suspension, along with works connection front shocks also from a honda. He said they worked great, and added width. I didn't ride his, but the suspension seemed a bit more supple compared to mine while pushing up and down on it. He probably weighed in the 170-185lb range. He said it all bolted right up, so this might be an interesting avenue for some of the more adventuresome folks to look at....

I weigh about 185lbs and I must stiffen the fronts all the up to the last notch if I jump anything!! For all out trail riding I will soften them up alot to smooth out the ride. It handles great but it does need aftermarket shocks. That will be the first upgrade I'll do. When you play with the back settings I get a friend to turn the screw for rebound and compression while I push up and down on the rear grab bar. You can feel it change so easy that it makes it a snap to get it tuned in.

I don't jump that much, but when I do, I have to stiffen it up for sure. Real easy to do.
250Exited, do you have your manual? I think it's on like page 21.
There is a compression screw at the top on the resevoir on the "port" side. Counterclockwise softens it up. Go about a half turn at a time.
There is also another on the bottom over on the "starboard" side. Go in to make the rebound come up slower, out to make it snap back quicker and buck you off like a pogo. A mix is needed so you don't compress and never rebound. Tune it to the size on the whoops and the speed you hit them at to give the suspension time to work.
