hey zook,i beg to differ with you on a couple of points
the reigning king of mx is the 400ex?are you sure about that?
also the test was done on a mx track, not in the tight woods or technical trails.
if your gonna swim with the sharks(cannondale)in a shark tank(mx track)you better hope your not a tuna(z,400ex)
dont take this the wrong way,im just saying that the clear victor in this article was the "C"
yet the powers that be didnt give cannondale what they clearly earned.

I'm positive about that. Pick up a copy of any MX race results and see who has the most wins. And as for local tracks around here, the Banshee may have more power but when you put it on a MX track with an ex it's pretty much no contest do to not being able to use the power effectively.( handling ) Kind of like drag racing cars. My car runs low 10s but if I change to street tires like King Raptor uses on his ride I would be lucky to get out of the 12s. I did however see 1 Cannon win a class in the last big race. I think it was production 4 stroke. Or something along those lines. I do think the Cannon is better on a track than a stock EX because it's already modified from the factory and it should do really well once a few more of them get out on the market. With the new generation of 400 class quads coming out on the market it could get real interesting before it's over. I think everyone will have to raise the bar a bunch. The little Z might be slower at the moment but when prepared for combat I think it will be right in the thick of things. Doug Gust would probably agree since he is also riding a DRZ powered entry. I'm by no means a Honda fan but everytime I pick up a copy of race results 90% of the winners are flying a red flag.

I agree with most all of the Dale owners, my complante is with the DW mag, I think that most Z owners bought their quad for mostly trail rideing. And like me, those that haven't got the Z yet, want to read about the abilities of the new quad. So what do they do, a MX race, against a Dale, WTF!!! If they wanted the Z to win so bad, why didn't they get a handfull of average riders and turn them loose on a tec trail, at least when they picked the Z as winner it wouldn't look so political!!!
Well I can only guess that the Z was the winner against "all" the other competition with the exception of the Dale. Is this true, or is there more BS in the mag that you all are holding out on us?
On the "shark" issue, that was funny, and that is telling it like it is, no arguement. But on the flip side, I have seen\talked to guyes with Dale's that have come from out-of-state to ride here in TN. They all enjoyed their selves but you should have seen their dales when they were done for the day, beat up pretty good(I couldn't do it, to much $). One of the guyes had a Raptor and a Moto(said he had 14,000 invested), he emailed us to tell us he was comeing to ride for a week, after the first half day on the raptor, he said there was no way he was goeing to take that Moto off the trailer. It just sat there all week! After the week was up, they trashed one Raptor, fliped another R(alcohol related) and went through half a pick up load of rims and tires. Not that any of this is relevent, I know I could take a Dale and ride everywhere my buds ride and so could most of you-all.
Different terain requires different quads and riders, it's just a hobbie! Some ride for fun some race for fun. If it was for a liveing, you wouldn't have time to be shooting the sh\t here with us "riders"!!!
Peace!!

As for the shootout
average to experienced trail riders turned faster times on the Z
professional racers turned better times on the production race quad
Goes back to the rider ability again just like woods riding doesn't it.
That tells me that a bunch of average Joe's out trail riding aren't going to have much if any advantage over a Z in the woods. I would honestly just like to see a Cannon in person on a trail. The last 3 times I've been to Chadwick I've been the only Z in the park. Much less anything as exotic as a Cannon being there. A chance to ride a Cannon in the woods would be even better. LOL

I agree GTV, dirtwheels blows. It seems like they are writing it for 10yr olds whos feelings could be hurt if you say one bad thing about any quad, they have no spine whatsoever to make one call over another. I buy DW once in a while at the bookstore, if I had a subscription I would cancel it and get a different mag, although they are pretty much the same.
DirtWheels is the bog dog, it should act like one if it wants my business.

Most people probably think that us Cannondale owners are just jealous and making up excuses that "we lost" the shootout, but that really isn't the case. I'll agree to the fact that the Z400 is probably the best all around quad that you can buy. If I just like to ride trails and ocasionally go to the track and just ride around and do **** like that, I would buy a Z or Raptor. I, and probably a lot of Cannondale owners, honestly agree that a Z is a awesome all around quad, BUT DirtWheels didn't do an all around shootout. It was a MX shootout. They talk about the Dale's awesome power, acceleration, speed, lap times, seat height, width, and wheelbase as being the best of the three, but as far as I can tell, the Z400 still won because it looks better, doesn't make as much noise, and is less maintenance. So I guess looks and noise is more important than performance. As far as maintenance... If you race, there is no such thing as to much maintenance. Thats right, I said "If you race." because that was the basis of this shootout. On the track, a KX 60 requires the same maintenance as a KX 250, that is if you want to keep it running at its peak performance.
Looks like DW is a bit lazy.

I am standing from the same position.
I like the Z400. I find myself putting in quite a few rides on one of our demos each week. Would I choose it over the Cannibal?? No. But alot of other riders would.
The entire story here is only about how the test was conducted and how the winner was chosen.
I would have brought it up regardless of what models were involved.
They always have "controversial" tests, but none as confusing as this one.
They say that the Cannibal is best on the track......The test was on a track....soooooo the Z400 must be the winner right???
