Z400 horsepower

Crank horsepower is 35.2. I've seen people report actual numbers at the rear wheels from 28.5 to 33.2 it all depends on what machine what day and who's dyno it's on at that time. I think you can safely say that there will probably be a few machines that seem to run better than others for no apparent reason. As for modified they are reliably getting over 50hp with the DRZ bikes and I see no reason that the quad shouldn't make the same power. A pipe and jetting will put them with a 440EX. And I read last night that Suzuki is going to pay contingency money to anyone winning a class with the Z so that will encourage the racers to get out and make a showing.

99% of the time you see HP numbers posted from dyno runs they will be rear wheel numbers. If there is a HP number on your title it will be at the crank.
The problem with dynos is that they all seem to read a little different. One dyno can say 29 HP and the same machine on a different dyno can say 32 HP.... About the only valid numbers are from measurements made on the same dyno.

I can only think of one real reason why the difference in HP claims from different dynos, other than the temp, elevation, rider, etc. I don't think dynos are accurate enough. You see they are meant for trucks, cars and such which make hundreds of horsepower not tens of horsepower. So, a 3 hp difference from run to run on a truck making 250 hp is with in the margin of error. On a quad 3 hp makes is big difference. I think the margin of error is to great on current ATV dynos.

The ATV manufacture's make their dyno runs on REAL water brake dynos in a controlled setting. Most of these "so called" expert pipe builders run their Dynojets in the back of a warehouse, and come up with some off the wall 9 h.p. gain. Then they leave out the part where the H.P. was actually lower in many sections of the power band.Im not against aftermarket pipes, but some of these h.p. claims are hog wash...more to come im sure.

Hey Katoom, what do you do for a living? Clean toilets? What can you provide us with that will prove your statements correct. I can only assume that you were trying to take a pot shot at Trinity Racing and myself. The quad being tested was dynoed before and after the pipe in an enclosed room. 9HP is correct. It did improve the power of the bike across the entire powerband with a 9HP increase over stock at 8900RPM and 5FT.LB at 4500RPM. This however was done with a drag pipe for ease of changing pipe diameters and tapers to achieve maximum power. Final production may differ, thus giving it the name PROTOTYPE. Give Trinity Racing a call and maybe they can provide you with a copy of the dyno sheet. Get your facts before making a conclusion.

Sorry, I don't know you or your company Trinity Racing. As for my post I stand behind it,I actually had a few of the Dirtbike pipe builders in mind when I made that reply. Its just my opinion of some of the pipe builders in general.I believe its a bunch of marketing "spin" and most published dyno numbers are printed by people with vested interest in the testing outcome.Dyno runs are just ink on paper,it sure isn't data!!! Most of them are ran in an uncontrolled enviroment, they have no way of keeping consistent air turnover,water/oil temperature, and no way to determine air/fuel ratio across the curve. This is just one mans opinion of the "aftermarket" pipe companys. It's not a shot at you,or your company,so don't take it personal when someone doesn't think the exact same as you.Ever read the book "Engine Testing Theory & Practice?"Its a really great book.

they should make one dyno place in the US for pipe makers, and EVERY pipe maker had to bring their product their and have someone else install it, and then have it put on that single dyno machine, thats the only way i can think of that could actually put real dyno test results in their advertisments, if everyione uses one machine ina perfectly controlled enviroment, then it would be ok,
does that even make sense? it made perfectly good sense in my head ..lol

WP, where did you get the Trinity Pipe at? Do you own trinity racing? I ordered the pipe on the 14th or 15th and emailed about it several times to make sure the shipping was still going to be on time around the 4th but got no response. I need the pipe bad and wanted to try that one but cant even contact them. So, I emailed to cancel my order today and guess I will get another brand.
