Did you try a Ball Joint Fork??

You can usually rent them, or even borrow one at AutoZone.

tap the side of the control arm (where the ball joint is) with a hammer. if that doesn't work get yourself a ball joint fork, like what lobe said. remember there are different sizes so make sure you get the right one.
