I in the market for a quad to do some duning with and ran across this 88 LT500, Ducan Port, coolhead, 4 pipes , 4 carb's,extra motor, extra set of rims & tires. Needs crank seals $1800. Just wondering it is worth. Also unsure about reliability on these quads I've been reading good and bad thing's about it, and with the crank seals needing to be replaced not sure if it may need other repair's. This will become my play quad only,so any input would be helpful. Thanks.

When the crank seals keep going bad on a 500 it needs to have the case mod done. Most big shops like CT racing and trinity can do it. It cost $275 just for the cases mod. You would have to disassemble for this price. I usually order a main bearing kit through Yamaha Suzuki of Arizona for $53.00 comes with both bearings and seals. Thats a cheap price($1800). Make sure it shifts good and does not pop out of gear. Mainly 2nd and 3rd. They are more work that some quads but noting can beat the power.

I'm not surprised at that price!
