I tow my Z400 standing up and have a problem with fuel leaking out of the carb through the air filter and into the air box. Since there is no way of turning the fuel off from the tank, I can't run the bowl dry before I stand it up. Anyone have any solutions to this problem? Is there a replacement fuel petcock with a true off position? Or would you suggest some type of clamp on the fuel hose to temporarily stop fuel flow?

I drain the bowl before I stand mine up and it solved the problem for me, prior to that I had the same problem with fuel in the air box.

dezertfreak, how do you drain the bowl and not have it fill back up?

there's a screw on the bottom of the bowl with a hose attached to it. loosen it then tighten it back up when all the fuel's drained.

I am aware of the drain for the bowl, but won't it just fill back up? I believe the petcock is vacuum operated. So if you drain the bowl it would create a vacuum and fuel would fill it up.

if you turn the petcock to the res position no fuel will flow to the carb as long as the bike is off.

Fuel should not flow from your tank if the petcock is turned to the on position and the engine is shut off.
If your petcock is in the pri(prime) position it will flow continuosly out the overflow hose with your quad on end.
When I stand mine up I open the bowl screw to drain the fuel, then i close it. To refill the bowl when you put it back on 4 wheels turn the petcock from on to pri then back to the on position, giving it about ten sec to fill.
I put an clear inline fuel filter on mine that way i can see the fuel flowing, when it stops the bowl is full.

the vacuum is created by the engine not the bowl.
