What size is the stock front sprocket? I think I need to go down one tooth from stock. 2nd gear is a bit tall for eastern woods. Also will I need to remove a link from the chain or can I adjust it enough that it's not necessary?

HI Bubba,
The stock front sprocket is 14 tooth, I just installed a 13 tooth today to compensate for 22" rear tires. You can use a RM 250 front sprocket but you will need a snap ring to hold it on and may have to grind the lip on new sprocket to fit.

I just installed a 15 tooth for mx and it helped a whole bunch. It makes the power of my 440 much more useable.

There is plenty of room for adjustment.

Cool, does anyone know where I can get one made for the Z, I really dont like the idea of having to grind anything.

So far none available. Alba advertises, but does not have on hand.

I used the side of a grinding wheel ('cuz it's flat). You can just touch it to the side, rotate the sprocket, touch it to the side until you go alll the way around the sprocket. The metal is hard enough so you won't quickly grind through it. If you take your time, keep the flange face of the sprocket parallel with the side of the grinding wheel, you'll be fine.

One last thing, you'll need a 7/8" E clip, NOT a C clip.
You'll need to file down part of the middle tab of the E-clip, but that's simple. If you screw up, they're only 22 cents.

Why not a c-clip? That is what the Suzuki dealership gave me.

When I tried the c-clip, it was extremely loose and I was able to remove it with my pinkie finger. I can't imagine it holding on while riding.

I too noticed it was loose, but I squish it closed and seems ok.
