I havent had my cases fixed with inserts and was wondering what are some of the symptoms of this problem and how can I check for this? Thanks for any input.

Take the clutch cover off, grab the housing and attempt to wiggle it, if there is any play in it you may want to consider getting it fixed, I personally have had no experience with this problem and I have owned 3 500s. I keep hearing that it will cause big time damage if you let it go too long, but like I said, I have never seen it happen.

You have never seen it happen because you don't know how to check for it!!!! You take off the flywheel cover...you grab the flywheel with both hands trying shake it up and down as if trying to tip the quad over by the flywheel. If you feel any play...ANY play, you have a problem!!!! If this side is bad? Chances are the other side is to. Another symptom is bad main seals that are caused by loose main bearings. The engine will idle eraticly and not want to idle back down after a rev. The problem has been fixed with the new cases you buy from suzuki but big buck$.

Well we are all saved, there is a machinist in the house, I can imagine that a smart *** comment will help BomBanshee so emmensely.

There are a number of places that are qualified to handle the case problem, LRD, Duncan, Tudors, and MP Racing, Mp has as much experience with the 500s as anyone, they are aware of the factorys shortcommings and how to remedy them MPs site is::::::http://www.motomallusa.com/mpracing.html

from what I have heard it cost about $200 to have this fixed, not counting seals, and other labor.

hope this helps

Hey BomBanshee, check it out...

www.tudorsperformance.com

I took my motor to them and they completely rebuilt it including:
bore/hone, piston kit, port/polish, completely clean trans and replace parts if nessasary (not the case with mine), machine the cases and install the case inserts, new main bearings, basically a complete top and bottom end rebuild including the case fix for 980 bucks out the door. Kit also includes copper no blow and re-usable head gasket, and no-blow spring steel base gasket. Motor has several riding trips under its belt now and is solid as a rock.

hope I helped. -Matt

I was looking into Tudors and probably will go with them. About how long did it take them to rebuild your engine?

Well, at the time I lived in Arizona. Jeff (the owner) and I made an agreement that I would pick up the motor exactly one month after I dropped it off, to the day. He held his end, and the motor was ready to go the morning I was there... Jug cleaned and freshly painted, lookin like brand new.
