Just bought a new eiger 4x4 manual tranny this Friday, been riding it around the yard, trying not to over do it,,,I've noticed that when i'm going downhill, usually in a higher gear, i hear either the tranny or rear end,(probably the tranny)making a winding noise,,,sounds a little like an engine brake slowing the tranny, but it is considerably noisey, the bike only got 8 miles on it,,,is this normal, will it quiet down after break in or what the heck is going on,,,anyone else gotta Eiger 4x4 manual shift? does it make a simular sound....
Thanx..........Nailer.......

It shouldn't make much noise in 2x4 mode. Prolly the engine brake your hearing.

Well if your down a hill and let off the gas and hear it and slows you down thats the Engine Braking System and if it is manuel shift this is normal about all manuels do this.

I have a 2002 5speed Eiger. Only automatics have engine brakes. I belive the whining sound heard on decel going downhill is the ring and pinion gear in the differential. This is normal and probably heard on auto's as well. During the break in process, it's important to vary engine speeds. Accelerate and decelerate to break in the piston rings and bearings under both load conditions. You don't want to take it too easy and merely burnish these parts at wich point they never fully seat. At the end of my third ride, i racked up two hundred forty miles! Had it serviced and racked up another two hundred since! I love this thing!!!!
