What if Suzuki was already working on an SV-650 based quad before the alliance and brought it out as the 5-speed model 650 sport? Maybe even with 4wd and IRS? Have you seen the trailing arm I.R.S. on the Outlander?
There's an awesome new mid-size. Rotax DOHC, inboard disc brakes. Imagine that as a Desert Racer...

I have no doubt at all as to it being able to outrun a stock Raptor or DS in a drag. I've seen modded P650s outrun stock Raptors all day. While it may not be a MXer it will probably be a contender in the dragwars and will be an excellent trailquad and harescramble machine. My Z will be for sale if Suzuki gets this machine and I may even settle for the Kawasaki if I have to. The only concern I have is if they will get the steering light enough to handle fast woods riding.

Personally, I wouldn't want the automatic but I'm betting there are a TON of people out there that will find this the perfect quad for them. Powerful, big and easy to drive.

Don't discount those automatics as being slow. Remember that these are always in the meat of the powerband and no missed shifts - this machine could be a good drag racer.

There is no question ruberband tranny's are fast! Just look at snowmachines, they are all faster than any quad, even the lowly 440 machines. You may say snowmachines make huge power and that is why they are fast, well then we just need more power in our 4-strokes! This is going to be a fast quad, if its geared properly.

Also I wonder how much power the drive shaft will soak up, I know its much more than a chain.

If automatics are so good for drag racing, why do the use manual transmissions in dragsters????? Also as Brent mentioned, you will loose valuable HP with a shaft drive.

The reason I think they use manuals in dragsters is reliability, the ease of rebuilding the tranny and its probably alot cheaper.

for one tell me which dragsters they use manuals in and i'll tell you why they uise them.
if your talking about the big dogs like kenny bernstien and john force ,they use automatics.,if you're talking pro stock like warren johnson and darryl alderman, they use manual shifted auto clutch trannies, becuase the nhra rules say they have to use manual trannies and be hand shifted.once they leave the light they no longer use a clutch to shift.
if you're going to talk $hit at least know what you're talking about.almost everything that is ran on the dragstrip that runs 10's or faster uses an automatic. i've been drag racing everything known to man for a long time,i have an idea whats going on at the drag strips.
and i can tell you whats going to happen at the quad drags next year when all the raptors and DS boys go crying home after they get beat by a stock kfx700 kawasaki.
nobody wants to believe that the machine that they have spent thousands of dollars on is going to get whooped by a new and innovative stock sport machine, thats unheard of.
but face the facts boys you have met your match.
