Z400 Gearing

I wouldn't gear that far down unless you have 22s. I have a 13 on the front with the stock sprocket in the rear and it's really hard to keep the front end down when riding agressively in the woods. Mine will come up in second rather sudden like and it doesn't take much to bring it up in 3rd either. When your on a tight trail and you go to exit out of a corner in second gear it's a b&%$# to make the turn when the frontend is in the air.

Just keep the stocker 14 front and bump up to a 42 rear. That will give you half of the low end of a 13 front. it takes 4 teeth on the rear to equal 1 on the front.
+ 1 tooth(F) or 4 teeth9(R)equals +10% increase low end. +2 teeth rear equals 5% increase low end, And visa versa.

If you want to figure out how the re-gearing affects your ratio, divide the # of teeth in the rear sprocket by the # of teeth in the front sprocket, it's as simple as that. That +1 tooth this and that stuff isn't worth remembering

I have 22's on my Z with a 13T front sprocket and I will definitely be going to a 41 (possibly 42) tooth rear. Currently, the 40 tooth rear is fine (dunes and trails) but I never hit 5th gear, so I might as well get the larger rear. My chart shows that with the 10% increase in tire diamter, the 13/41 combo will compensate and be equivalent to having 20" tires and 14/40

A note for any of you contemplating 22" tires. I put Holeshot XCT's on, and the bike didn't really like them. I think it is just to light a bike to weight it down with such big, heavy treads. Why turn a flyweight into a clunker?? I think it would especially be a mistake for trail riders!! I'll save the XCT's for my friends DS.

Corpsie, The XCT Holeshots are extremely heavy compared to regular Holeshots.( more plys ) I think they were designed for xc but they add a lot of weight to a machine. Maybe they are the answer to the Raptor's tippy problem that you hear about.LOL
